Men on the underground

This project started when I became fascinated by the various bags men carried when travelling through town and in particular on the underground.

I started to photograph and sketch the men and their bags on my tube journeys. Whilst watching I began to notice the different stances men took up in the enclosed spaces and found I had to draw and photograph more. These led to imagery in 2d and 3d - ceramics and prints of men on the underground. Eventually deciding to make a conversation game asking what words we associate with men and then scribing them on ceramic counters. The game fosters conversations on the validation and identity associated with the masculine.

Masculinity and it’s joys and challenges - a conceptual art game explores this through conversation. Men’s Game was played at the North Star in the Leytonstone Arts Trail in summer 2019 - everyone was welcome!
